Mobile Phones and Wi-Fi Internet Access
We have very good cell phone coverage. Both CDMA and GCM based phones work in Chapleau. That is assuming your provider has a reciprocal agreement with tBayTel. For example, if you got your phone from Bell Canada, Rogers, AT&T, Verizon or Sprint, it will probably work in Chapleau.

The cabins at Canadianfishing.com also receive a strong cell signal. You will be able to use your cell phone to stay in touch with your home or workplace.We recommend that you make sure that your phone's roaming software is up to date. Your local phone store can do that for you. That way you will be sure that your phone will recognize all of the cell phone companies with whom your provider has a reciprocal service agreement. For example, a Verizon phone's software can be updated over the air by dialing *228 (Star 228).
Pay Phone
There is a pay-phone on the property at our cabins. It is in the same little building as the Wi-Fi internet router. There you can sit down and talk comfortably.
There are also two public pay-phones in the town of Chapleau, one at the west end of Birch Street near the Bridgeview Motel and the other outside the convenience store on Planer Road.
The pay-phone is equipped with a credit card reader but our customers inform us that this is a rather expensive way to pay for the calls.
The much cheaper way is with a CiCi calling card PIN number. You can get a CiCi PIN number in two ways:
Buy a CiCi card in Chapleau for $5.00 plus 13% tax. This gives you 200 minutes within Canada or 142 minutes to the U.S.A. Hugh usually keeps some of these CiCi cards in his boat. You can also buy a CiCi card yourself at the corner store at the main intersection in downtown Chapleau or at the convenience store next to the Aux Trois Moulins Restaurant on Planer Road.
You can also obtain your CiCi PIN number online. The PIN number will be e-mailed to you instantly. Here is a link that will take you to the CiCi website. Most people seem to find the $5.00 card sufficient.To use the CiCi PIN number, dial the CiCi access number. You will then be prompted through by an automated voice that will ask for your PIN number and for the phone number that you wish to call. It will also tell you how many minutes you have left.
Wi-Fi Internet Access
High-speed wireless internet access is available free of charge right on the camp property through our Wi-Fi Hotspot. You have to bring your own computer.
The wireless router is located in the small building that also contains the pay-phone. This building is furnished with table and chairs for convenient computing. The wireless signal reaches about 300 feet from there. If you cannot receive the signal right in your cabin, simply walk a few steps to the computer room.
