|
![]() From Southern Ontario Chapleau is 190 km, (two hours) west of Timmins, Ontario on Highway 101. From the Toronto area take Hwy. 400 North to Sudbury. From Sudbury you have two options: Option 1: Or you can stay on Hwy. 144 from Sudbury to the junction with Hwy 101 just west of Timmins and then take Hwy. 101 to Chapleau. That route is all good paved highway. Option 2: From Sudbury take Hwy. 17 West to Thessalon. At Thessalon take Hwy. 129 North to Chapleau. This route is also completely paved. From the Kingston area take Hwy. 41 to Timmins and then from Timmins to Chapleau on Hwy. 101. From the Ottawa area take Hwy. 117 North to Timmins, passing through Val-d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda. Then from Timmins to Chapleau on Hwy. 101. Once in Chapleau
You will come over a curved bridge across the rail yard to reach the main part of town.
If you missed the left turn and find yourself on Chapleau's main business street (Birch Street), drive East across the four-way stop that has the flashing red light and then turn left at Aberdeen Street (2 blocks past the red light). We are at the North end of Aberdeen Street. |

The border crossing to Canada nearest to us is Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. That is at the very north end of Interstate Highway 75. We are 190 miles (three and a half hours) from Sault Ste. Marie.

We do not recommend Highway 556 from Sault Ste. Marie past Ranger Lake to Highway 129. It is a gravel road, can be quite rough and will cost you much time and maybe the price of a new muffler. The other roads that we recommend are excellent and all paved.
