We are here to make your trip unforgettable

Anishinaabe Land Stewardship

We acknowledge that our story on this land has just begun when compared to the thousands of years that Anishinaabe people have lived on and cared for this land.

Since time immemorial and into today, the Aanishnaabe have lived on and stewarded the land our fishing camp is located on, in the traditional territory of the Anishinabe and Cree peoples in the Treaty 9 area, also recognizing the neighbouring First Nations of Brunswick House, Chapleau Cree, Chapleau Ojibwe, Michipicoten and Missanabi Cree.

As the original people of this land, the Anishinaabe have always lived in reciprocal, respectful relations with the land and waters and all living things. Despite hundreds of years of harmful colonization efforts that continue into today, they retain an unbroken natural relationship with their land through speaking their original languages; practicing their ceremonies; hunting, trapping and fishing; and practicing cultural traditions passed down for thousands of years.

As a settler-run business operating on Anishinaabe land, we are committed to recognizing, respecting and supporting their rights and practices however we can.

Meet Daryl

My name is Daryl Weiler and I am the proud new owner of Pellow’s Best Canadian Fishing since 2023.

I worked with Hugh for the 2023 season to make sure this was the life I wanted and it turns out it was everything I wanted and more. It felt like a dream come true and I knew that this is what I am meant to do and where I am meant to be.

It is a lot of work to run this camp, but it is work that brings me great joy and satisfaction.

Creating a place that brings my guests happiness, a sense of peace, relaxation, a place to connect with friends, family and nature, is what drives me. All of the people I’ve met over the last two seasons were wonderful and I can’t wait to meet the rest of you.

My name is Sara-Jane and I am so happy to be a part of the Pellow’s team, to help Daryl with building and growing his dream of creating an experience and a place for guests to create memories that last a lifetime.

I have a work background in office administration, marketing, event planning, information technology and project management and am using my skills to help run things on the office side, while also learning and helping Daryl with the more hands-on aspects of running the camp.

I love the outdoors and the peace and healing that being in Nature can bring. You will likely hear me playing my flute while you are out on the water or enjoying a sunset or see me on the water in my kayak, hopefully catching pictures of you making your beautiful memories.

As we grow and expand the camp in the years to come, my role will be to create an experience that is focused on the healing aspects of reconnecting with Nature, for people looking to get away from the noise of the city or the fast pace of their daily life, or who are looking for answers in their heart that can only be heard in the quiet of Nature.

I am really grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of Pellow’s and to get to call this amazing place home. I have enjoyed all of the guests I met last summer, loved learning about the history of the camp from you and hearing your stories. I can’t wait to meet the rest of you!

Meet the Dogs

When you come to camp, you will be greeted by 3 friendly dogs we like to call our wolf pack. Beau is the pack leader and is looking forward to his third season at camp, greeting guests, sniffing catches and trading smiles for pets.

Rain is the mama of the pack and this will be her second season at camp. She loves to run around and explore the island and is friendly when she stops long enough to say hello.

Storm is the puppy of the pack and was born here last season on July 5th. She has quadrupled in size and is the sweetest girl, who gets very excited for pets.

Daryl & Hugh

I want to especially thank Hugh Kuttner. Meeting him was the #1 reason I decided to pursue this particular camp. The guests I met these past two seasons were amazing and are the people Hugh's personality attracted during the 60 years he owned and ran this camp. I am so beyond grateful for all of his guidance and for gaining his trust that I was the one meant to take over what he has built. It was a long journey and Hugh's support helped in many ways. He has built a beautiful legacy with this camp and I am honoured to be carrying on in his footsteps.
